The Sweet Shop
An early jigsaw, the third cut for Nicki Barker by Rob Garner in April 2008, in which he included her initials (his usual R whimsy came later). Push-fit with shallow lobes and line-cut, it still includes his heart and dog whimsies. The Rufus dog whimsy rubs noses with the one pulling the dog-sleigh in a masterful appropriate whimsy placement.
When Nicki first visited Rob’s workshop he showed her several designs by Dutch artist Anton Pieck. She says, “I fell in love with the first Anton Pieck puzzles he cut. It was the first time I had come across puzzle with a raised section and his incredible colour line cutting of the panes of glass in the windows and all the other cut out detail left me joyous with pleasure - he proceeded to cut me all the other Anton Pieck images he had….in all about five and each one still treasured.”
Howard Smeeton of HS Puzzles has also cut this image (June 2023), likely from a print supplied by Nicki.
