Preparations for the Wedding

A colourful 19thC orientalist painting cut in a stack of two by Genest in May 2020. This was probably the second copy of a commission. A difficult extreme line-cut, push-fit jigsaw. The image is full of rich textures and patterns.

Josep Tapiró i Baró (1836-1913), a master watercolourist, was the first painter from the Iberian Peninsula to settle in Tangier, from 1876-1913. He was a direct witness and recorder of the extraordinary urban and cultural transformation of this city in the period up to WWI.
