Sivka-Burka, 400pc Medieval Studio Cut

This is from the Dreamton Fine Arts range but using a non-standard cut (400pc Medieval Studio cut). The image is Sivka-Burka by Viktor Mikhaylovich Vasnetsov (1848 – 1926). He was a Russian artist who specialised in mythological and historical subjects, a co-founder of Russian folklorist and romantic nationalistic painting, and a key figure in the Russian Revivalist movement.

It depicts a folk tale in which the youngest son of three dutifully follows his dead father’s wishes and is rewarded with a magic flying horse, and the means to transform himself into a handsome hero. He completes the quest set by the Tsar and gains the princess’s hand through his modesty.

I chose the 400pc Medieval Studio cut for its medieval, chivalric theme and its curving, straplike elements. Ihor designed the cut for the image ‘In The Studio’ by Maria Bashkirtseva (see photo of Pete’s jigsaw) which includes her self-portrait.
