A Cold Day from Children of Our Town

A commission from Nicki Barker and one of a series cut from the illustrations of the book ‘Children of Our Town’, by E Mars & HM Squire to verses by Caroline Wells. The book was published by RH Russell, New York, 1902.

A Cold Day (and a companion jigsaw ‘Quarrelsomeness’) were both cut in February 2015. Howard has line-cut around the little girl – who seems to have a disapproving look as she nervously passes the snowball fight. Cut in Howard’s trademark fantasy interlocking style, with several impressive large tight spirals.

Nicki sold this jigsaw on in Oct 2018. The same image had also been cut for her by Rob Garner in 2008, along with another image from the book, The Excursion Boat.
