Perdu
Understood to have been established c2009, this British brand utilised modern materials and high-tech laser-cutting equipment to create some truly stunning jigsaw puzzles.
The idea of making plastic jigsaw puzzles was a very bold one and alas, the company only continued manufacturing for around 4-5 years. Nevertheless those puzzles they made were highly imaginative and must rank as some of the most colourful ever produced.
They feature artwork directly printed on to the board surface and employ very clever colour line-cutting throughout. Unlike hand-cut puzzles where the cutter could direct his saw in any chosen direction, the work involved in setting up the laser's cutting programme to match the chosen artwork must have been significant, but the superb results fully justify that effort!
The Company idea was born from its founder Judy Hilton who had been introduced to the world of wooden jigsaw puzzles by her father David Oliver, who had cut puzzles for her since her early childhood. Another clear influence was that of her great uncle, Eric Pedley, one of Britain's most skilled hand-cutters, as can be seen in his own dedicated Jigasaurus albums. See
here for an amazing selection, many created for the British Jigsaw Puzzle Library.
The attention to quality is further exhibited in the puzzle packaging, featuring very sturdy boxes with magnetic closers and excellent graphics.
