New "Saxonia", The

An artist's impression by C.E.Turner of the new Cunard liner RMS Saxonia in the St Lawrence River having passed under the famous cantilever bridge at Quebec.

Turner's picture was also used for the last "Cunard" puzzle sold by Chad Valley in 1955.

The ship was constructed at John Brown & Co, Clydebank, launched in February 1954 and was one of four liners commissioned by Cunard for their Liverpool-Montreal service. It was refitted in 1962 and renamed the "Carmania". In 1973 it was sold to the Soviet Union Black Sea Shipping Company and eventually scrapped in 1999.

This example comes in a plain brown-paper covered box with a B&W guide picture. The label erroneously gives the title as the new "Sasconia".
