Fighting Temeraire, The

This fine quality, solid wood puzzle bears all of the characteristics of Willam Peacock & Sons, who are thought to have produced it for retail in the Boardmans shop. Other very similarly branded puzzles include the Shoolbred range. See Highland Cattle/Gone to Earth, which features an almost identically cut double-sided example.
The oil painting, surely one of Britain's finest, is by the artist J.M.W. Turner in 1839 and depicts the 98-gun HMS Temeraire being towed to Rotherhithe in 1838 to be scrapped following active duty in the Battle of Trafalgar 1805. During the battle Temeraire came to the rescue of the beleaguered Victory, and fought and captured two French ships, winning public renown in Britain. Source:Wikipedia
