Procession of the Magi

An unusual puzzle sold by Chad Valley which has been cut from thick (¼") plywood, including some line cutting and shaped pieces as illustrated.

The subject is a work of art by the Florentine artist Benozzo Gozzoli featuring the three Magi on horseback being followed by a procession of notable contemporary figures in a very stylised landscape. More information is in the adapted illustration of text on the box under the guide picture.

The puzzle comes in a book box with ribbon ties. This style of box was introduced in 1934 which dates the puzzle between 1934 and 1939, subject to more confirmation. There is a gold sticker on the spine declaring that Chad Valley was in possession of a Royal Warrant as toy makers to HM the Queen.

It would be interesting to know if Chad Valley made more puzzles cut in a similar way.
