King John Assents to the Magna Carta

This huge 1400 piece plywood puzzle, probably dating from the 1930's was retailed through the renowned London Store, Fortnum & Mason, but was almost certainly made by AVN Jones in their Delta Fine-Cut style.
The painting by the controversial, and tragically short-lived British artist Charles Henry Sims (1873-1928), which depicts the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymede in 1215, was one of a series of paintings commissioned by the Palace of Westminster, called the Building of Britain. It is likely that prints of all eight paintings from this series were used to produce puzzles. Certainly cœur de lion, and Union with Scotland, along with King John, have all featured as Victory Gold Box puzzles.
