02. Surf-riding at Muizenburg: The Queen of Cape Coast Watering-places.

This is the larger 300-piece version showing a fuller picture.

Artist C.E. Turner (1883 - 1965).

Quite a scarce puzzle from the very interesting South African Series. In this example the box lid features a different puzzle (no 10 in the series). The box base lists the titles available at the time of manufacture and correctly identifies it as puzzle no. 2. A previous owner has also written 'Surf Riding' on the lid to emphasise this.

It is suspected that the box lid photograph was used as an example of the series, rather than as a guide picture for the contents.

A less well known manufacturer, Mrs. Apperly from Kent also produced a wooden puzzle, this time simply entitled Surf Bathing which features this same print.
