Pomp and Circumstance

150-piece plywood jigsaw puzzle, part of the lending stock of the library, believed to have been cut by Dolly McDougall although there is no name on the attached library record card. This carries completion dates from 1968 onwards.

The puzzle has been cut in a predominantly non-interlocking style but with some interlocks also included. Colour line-cutting has been applied abundantly.

The artwork, signed by the British artist Charles Robinson, is believed to have been from a c1914 issue of "The Graphic" weekly newspaper which ran from 1869-1932. Another of his fine illustrations appears in the jigsaw puzzle The Oracle. An accomplished artist/illustrator in his own right, his father and two brother were also highly productive artists, his brother William Heath Robinson perhaps the most well renowned.
