Good Companions

A 300pc jigsaw by this very uncommon brand cut in by LN Tasker of 208 Eccleshall Rd, Sheffield. They are whimsy cuts including numbers, shapes like tools and weapons, and the swastika - indicating they likely predate the mid 1930s. The pieces often feature long arms with rounded ends that sometimes look like a drop or curve and look like the tip of a growing shoot or root. They are very enjoyable to lay out and assemble, but not very difficult because of the distinctive shapes.
The Good Companions is a fine painting of a well-to-do angelic-looking boy, holding his dog by Arthur William Devis. The 18-19thC artist had an adventurous life with mixed fortunes, and painted the Death of Nelson and George III.
