Life on the Moor

361 piece plywood puzzle, cut by Eric Pedley for the British Jigsaw Puzzle Library. A wide variety of cutting styles has been applied, with abundant colour line-cutting, fourteen avian-shaped pieces set into the sky area, and a fully interlocking oval-shaped border design.

The artwork is one of a series of twelve studies commissioned by Shell in the 1950s to promote British nature. Painted by the British artist/illustrator John Leigh-Pemberton (1911-1997), the series comprised of: Life on the Moor, Life on the Trees, Life on the Wall, Life on the Cliff, Life on the Downs, Life in the Sky, Life on the Mountain, Life by the Road, Life in the Meadow, Life in the Corn, Life on the Tide Line and Life by the Stream.
