Wise Owl

Superb semi-interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle cut by Eric Pedley and featuring some of his finest techniques. Colour line-cut throughout and with a very stylish shaped outline, he has created a fully interlocking border to hold the semi-interlocking and push-fit subject area firmly in place. The painting still shows the partial signature of the British wildlife artist Basil Ede and features his superb depiction of a Tawny Owl, as featured in his famous 1965 reference book "Birds of Town and Village".

Since displaying this puzzle, details and images of a very similarly designed example have been received, entitled The Blue Tit and the Great Tit, also cut by Eric Pedley and from this same publication.
