Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Another incredibly challenging push-fit plywood jigsaw puzzle, thought to be of c1930s manufacture and featuring a painting by the American illustrator and mural painter Dean Cornwell (1892-1960). With very small pieces and exceptional colour line cutting, it took ages to put together! The end result was dramatic, as the individual pieces looked relatively dull at first. It is housed in an old oriental cigarettes tin.

The painting features the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in the Christian quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, revered in Christianity as being the site of both the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus.
