Heart of the Empire May 6 1935

Large plywood jigsaw puzzle cut for the Mission by Miss E. Smith and featuring as its artwork an incredibly detailed painting by the English artist Francis Owen Salisbury (1874-1962). The box contained a newspaper front page from the Gloucestershire Echo dated 31 January 1944 and, as Miss Smith was located in nearby Cheltenham, I think it likely that she placed this in the box as filling when she had finished cutting the puzzle.
The painting celebrated the 1935 Silver Jubilee service at St. Paul's Cathedral, featuring King George V and Queen Mary, along with many other Royal Family figures, including the future Monarchs King George VI and our beloved Queen Elizabeth II.
The puzzle itself is cut in the familiar interlocking style associated with the brand.
