Views of Paris-Le Pont Saint-Michel et le Palais de Justice

350 piece plywood jigsaw puzzle, superbly cut and thought to be of c1950's manufacture. The box-base label carries a Harrods store price label, so clearly the puzzle was supplied for the UK market.

In typical Royal Vera style, the puzzle features excellent use of colour line-cutting, along with a combination of push-fit and semi-interlocking pieces, all set within an interlocking border. The skill used by the cutter was quite superb, leaving me guessing at so many turns. Convinced that pieces were missing, pairs, or even trios, of individual pieces linked together into extraordinary shapes, filling even the most unlikely of gaps. So satisfying and quite superb! The puzzle backing is of a yellow felt-like paper material. Probably cut in stacked partnership with other similarly sized puzzles, the use of different coloured backings helped minimise the chances of puzzles becoming mixed up. during the cutting staqe of production.

This was the second example which I have witnessed with a "Views of Paris" heading, both painted by the Canadian artist G.A. Dumarais. The second is entitled Le Petit-Pont and Notre Dame.
I am now aware of at least seven similarly themed studies by this artist, all featuring Parisienne bridges, so hopefully more puzzle examples will turn up!
