Jeu au whist

One of the earliest examples of Royal branded plywood puzzles which features a period painting by the British artist Margaret Dovaston, quoted on the print itself as being entitled Dummy Whist. The puzzle is cut in an almost fully interlocking, and very stylish curly pattern with colour line-cutting around most of the main subject material.
This example carries the Vera Royal Puzzle rectangular label, believed to date from c1940/42, with the more familiar circular Royal Vera Puzzle identity appearing on later examples.
