Joli Couple, Un

One of my favourites amongst the French Royal range of plywood puzzles, thought to be of 1950's origins and which includes four Whimsies, or figural shapes, a feature very seldom seen in this era of Vera puzzles.
The cutter's interpretation of the unsigned painting is magnificent, with great skill and care shown throughout. Colour line-cutting has been accurately accomplished and the subtle changes in piece-shape from different subject areas is also highly effective.
The print is from F.R. London and carries an English title of A Pretty Pair.
