Very fine plywood puzzle from the Royal range which features a painting by an artist signed J. Stanford.
The puzzle is mostly non-interlocking with plentiful colour line-cutting to enhance the challenge. As with many other puzzles from the range, the shape of pieces often mirrors the scene, with cloud-shaped pieces making up the sky area. A fully interlocking border helps to keep all the non-interlocking pieces together.
Certainty over the artist identity is not known and may possibly be a pseudonym. Similarity in style with another Royal Vera puzzle Concours Hippique , this time painted by the British artist Donald Greig, cannot be ignored.
