Macmillan Educational Series

Series of 150 piece, square-format, plywood puzzles which assembled inside their tray-style boxes with full scale colour guide pictures printed on the lid. They also contained large figural shaped pieces, with the same selection of nine animal outlines featuring in the first two examples shown. A label pasted inside the box lid gave information on the scene depicted, along with providing a list of questions to encourage "instructive conversation". The artwork for each came from Macmillan's "Educational" series of classroom posters.

These are understood to have been first produced c1938, initially with the heading "Educational Series", but changing to "Holiday Series" from around 1946 onwards. Information from Brian Price's detailed records.
