Victory, H.M.S. (175 piece)

One of the most iconic puzzles from British manufacturer Victory, this very fine example being part of their "Topical" Series of puzzles. This is the 175 piece, 6mm thick plywood jigsaw puzzle of Nelson's ship H.M.S. Victory, painted by the British artist William McDowell (1888-1950). The box seals help to date this puzzle to pre 1955, when Sellotape became the preferred option for sealing the boxes. Also included with the puzzle was a single-sided reference sheet about the ship. This information must considerably pre-date the puzzle itself, as it references a time three years earlier, when the ship entered drydock. This was 1922, when she could no longer remain afloat.
