207. Yeomen of the Guard, The
After Gilbert and Sullivan, this circular puzzle from 1940 features scenes from the Opera:
Phoebe Merrill at her spinning wheel;
Colonel Fairfax, condemned to death, greets Sir Richard Cholmondeley while Phoebe and Sergeant Merrill look on;
Elsie Maynard is blindfolded before being secretly married to Colonel Fairfax;
Jack Point tries to get Sir Richard to take him on as his personal fool;
Phoebe steals the keys to Fairfax’ cell from Wilfred Shadbolt and passes them to her father so he can free Fairfax, and from the final scene
Dame Carruthers, Kate, Pheobe, Leonard and Sergeant Merrill and Sir Richard look on as Fairfax claims Elsie as his bride and Jack Point in his Motley collapses to the ground.
This is from the second series of four Circular puzzles from John Waddington.
