42. T.S.S. Voltaire

c1938 interlocking cardboard jigsaw puzzle featuring an unsigned painting of the Belfast built, Lamport and Holts line ship, T.S.S. Voltaire, sister ship of the T.S.S. Vandyck which also features in one of this Waddington's Giant range of puzzles(see volume 50). Launched in 1923, laid up during the financial crash and brought back into service as a cruise liner in 1932, converted to an armed merchantman in 1939, she was sunk in 1941 during an action with the German raider K.M.S.
