50. T.S.S. Vandyck

The T.S.S. Vandyck was built to carry freight and passengers to South America in 1921. Laid up during the financial crash, she was brought back into service as a cruise ship in 1932 for her new owners Lamport and Holt and repainted white as she appears in this puzzle. In 1940, as armed merchantman HMS Vandyck, she was sunk off Norway by enemy bombing while on Operation Alphabet, the evacuation of troops from Narvik. TSS stands for Twin Screw Steamer. This jigsaw is one of a pair, the other being Volume 42, T.S.S. Voltaire. A history of the Vandyck together with some images can be found here
