Europe

Thick, solid mahogany backed c130 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle, interlocking in cutting style and carefully divided along country borders. The box address of Carlton Street, London SW., helps to date this example to c1910-11. The puzzle assembles in its tray-style box, which shows the retailer name of Henry's "Civet Cat" Bazaar. 22, King Street, Manchester. On the reverse of the box is also a round red label promoting "LASCA", a new game by CET and Co., invented by Dr. Emanuel Lasker, then chess champion of the World. According to records, this game was invented in 1911, helping further with the date verification for the puzzle. Another relatively uncommon puzzle brand, that of Sawtitout, also show the C.E.T. & Co. initials on their box covers.
