Atkinson Family

In October 2019, I was contacted by the Reverend Ian Atkinson from Birnam in Perthshire, who was hoping to find a new home for his collection of around twenty wooden jigsaw puzzles. I was advised that these had mostly been cut by his father, and possibly grandfather, seemingly only for family and friends to enjoy. Several of the puzzles included replacement pieces of varying standards, possibly made by Reverend Atkinson himself, or other members of the family over the seventy or more years that he recalled the puzzles being enjoyed.

The puzzles were mainly push-fit in style and cut with considerable care along most colour line divisions. The print quality was generally high, with many of the puzzles featuring very large pieces of artwork. In one instance, that of the two Southport Boulevards puzzles, the enormous original print, which would have measured around 46 inches width by 26 inches in height, was divided into two halves before being mounted and cut as separate puzzles!

The Reverend Atkinson passed away in 2022, and I feel very privileged to be able to display this collection of his family’s puzzles here for us all to enjoy.
