Checkmate

Superb quality, 400 piece interlocking plywood jigsaw puzzle, of c1920s manufacture and featuring an unsigned painting which is attributed to the Belgian artist Alex de Andreis (1871-1939).

The hinge-lidded box carries a label denoting this as subject number "5" from series "E", which tallies with the second side of this double-sided promotional flyer found in another Chandos puzzle of similar age. Click Here. As well as listing the specific puzzle, there is also a black and white image of it.

A closer look at the label image also gives an excellent indication of the initial vibrancy of the box covering, now sadly faded from its original appearance.

Another example of puzzle attributed to Alex de Andreis is the large Delta Fine Cut plywood puzzle The Conference
